Thought to be half slain by the hanyou Inuyasha, and left to otherworldly dreams of a half betrayal that would keep her hooked into this tale like a bug stuck in honey...Kikyou fell into the next world carrying with her the shikon no tama in an attempt to rid the world of it. Only, she couldn't.
The tama came back. In the body of the girl who also brought Inuyasha back. Which in the end meant she was drawn back to this world as well. Against her wishes, as it were.
Wrought with the pain of hate and betrayal the crimson miko managed to cling onto that last shred to keep her clay body going when Urusae, the necromancy witch, pulled her from Kagome and Kagome pulled her back. Stumbling out past the moors she located shinidamachuu and they worked for a mutually beneficial end. She needed souls to walk, they needed a walking soul storage.
Now, lost and confused, twisted and used she sought to end Inuyasha with her, and end her pain....But found it wasn't so easy-as Kagome had penetrated Inuyasha's heart much the same way she had, and his link to Kagome kept him from sinking with her....The little green miko however did give her interesting information...Naraku was the true cause of her pain.
After failing to take Inuyasha, from there, she pretty much left Inuyasha to the young green miko-and managed to care less about him as she sought information on Naraku-discovering he had base feelings for her way back before she died...This-intrigued her, to say the least, more than Inuyasha had...as she pursued him.
Years rolled by, Kikyou met up with the Inu-gumi more and more through her travels and hunts; though each time she was less and less interested in Inuyasha and more and more inclined to be a sort of friend and informant...Inuyasha eventually took Kagome to mate, and Kikyou wished them well.
Eventually, Kagome offered to help make Kikyou semi-human again, by transmuting what was left of herself into a fresh "corpse" as it were, so she could live out her life free of soul-snatching and completely dissolve any of her hatred...She was all for it and seemed happy.
~500 years or so in the future~Kikyou was in fact reincarnated-more as herself, and having No knowledge of her previous life lives out her life as a youkai/human doctor and Kagome and her children's primary physician.
